Today I'm reviewing CoverMate food covers. These are reusable, elasticized plastic food covers that can be used in the place of regular plastic wrap.
I thought that this concept sounded like a really good idea; I hate covering bowls with plastic wrap, only to have it slide around and leak. The covers look like shower caps of various sizes, but the elastic is much stronger, and they fit tightly around the containers that I put them on.
Another thing I liked about the CoverMate covers is that they are microwaveable. They are also resuable; you can actually wash them in the dishwasher (top rack) and reuse them about ten times! That would be impossible with plastic wrap!
The main downside I found to the covers was that I didn't find a lot of opportunity to use them. That is because I am used to transferring most of my leftovers directly to plastic conainters with lids, which I like because they are airtight and fairly spillproof. However, if I were in the habit of covering lots of dishes with plastic wrap, I think that the CoverMate covers would be a definite improvement.
The covers were also a little hard to wash in the dishwasher. I was not able to find a good position to put them in that did not make them trap crumbs and water. I think in the future I would just skip the dishwasher and rinse that off in the sink.
You can get a free sample pack of the covers for only $3.95 shipping and handling; with the sample pack, you will also receive a $1.00 off coupon for their next purchase.

ReplyDeleteThese things remind me of shower caps. However, I keep them up at our camp. They are great for covering things I bring to pot lucks -- because you can cover your dish when you're carrying it, keep it covered until it's ready to serve, then easily put the cover back on if you're bringing leftovers away. I just take the cover off, sit the dish in it (so it won't blow away and so no one else can claim it).
I don't usually want to spend extra money on stuff like this for home, but for camp, I like to use these.
I loke that they are reusable--I hate using saran wrap and then throwing it away--or the fact that it doesn't seal well around my dish.

I like the elastic which makes it so that it fits different shaped and sized containers.
ReplyDeleteI like that they are reusable- about 10 times. Less money, less waste. Good all around.

I like that they're reuseable.
ReplyDeleteI like that these can fit containers that might necessarily have a matching lid! I would use them when I take things to parties...sometimes the serving dishes I want to use don't have a lid and I use Glad Press 'n Seal, which works but is expensive.

I like that they are reusable and aren't as fussy to deal with as Saran wrap.
ReplyDeleteI would love these because I have so many containers without lids, and I also use pots to store food and could use a clear cover like this!
