I'm excited to announce that I have another giveaway for you all this week. Well, actually, it's five giveaways - one each day this week! A Big G Cereal Retro gift pack will be awarded to each of five winners, one for each day. Be sure to enter every day (but you can only win once)!
Again this year for a limited time, Target stores are carrying the Retro editions of five favorite General Mills Big G cereals, complete with authentic "retro" package designs and cartoons from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. These special edition boxes are only available until mid-March!
This year, the packaging was chosen based on a national survey conducted by General Mills, which asked consumers to pick their favorite Retro package designs. The top packages chosen include Cheerios® (1956), Trix® (1968), Honey Nut Cheerios® (1984), Cinnamon Toast Crunch® (1984) and Lucky Charms® (1989). Consumers were also asked to share thoughts and opinions about their childhood memories of breakfast cereals, including favorite characters, promotions, prizes, cartoon characters and shows.
All the boxes have authentic Retro designs, as well as games and activities on the boxes. For even more fun, you can go to GrocerySavvy.com to watch authentic retro cartoons, such as Underdog, King Leonardo, and Dennis the Menace. You can also print coupons for General Mills products!
Today I'm highlighting the Special Edition Cheerios box - from 1956! I like the slogan on it: "The Oat Cereal Ready to Eat"! What else can you say about Cheerios, except, like my husband said, it's the old standby! My older daughter prefers plain Cheerios to any sugary or gimmicky kid cereal any day.
The Retro packaging has a neat Bird Hunt game on the back that you can cut out and play.
Remember, you can buy all the Retro cereals at Target stores, but you also have a chance to win some for free! Thanks to General Mills, I am giving away a Big G Retro cereal gift pack, which includes one each of the five special edition cereals, plus a $10 Target gift card!
To enter this giveaway, simply leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite thing about or memory of Cheerios. You must answer this question to enter. Please include your email in your comment if it is not available in your profile. For extra entries, you may do any or all of the following, for a maximum of 4 entries in total (please leave a separate comment for each):
1) Follow Frugally Blonde by rss feed.
2) Follow Frugally Blonde by email
3) Follow Frugally Blonde on Twitter and tweet about this giveaway. (Leave a link to your tweet.) This may only be done once; no daily tweets.
This contest runs for only one week and ends on next Monday, March 14, at midnight. The contest is open to residents of the US only, and the winner must provide a valid mailing address (no PO boxes). I will choose the winner randomly and notify him or her by email, and he or she will have 72 hours to respond. Good luck!
I received a retro cereal gift pack from General Mills, who is also supplying the giveaway prizes.. I received no other compensation for this post, and the opinions are my own.

ReplyDeleteHoney Nut Cheerios are my husband's comfort food. When he's cranky, lost his appetite or not feeling well I can usually convince him to at least have a small bowl, and they almost always help at least a little bit.

ReplyDeleteWhenever I see Cheerios, I smile, because I remember my son's chubby little fingers struggling to pick them up and stuff them in his mouth when he was learning to feed himself. The generic brands were no good - when he hit his high chair tray, they were so light that they flew off onto the floor. Only the real Cheerios were any good.
